Our Local River
The Cuyahoga River, once famous for catching on fire, is now making people excited about it again. One of only fourteen Heritage rivers in the United States, local communities depend upon this waterway for drinking water, shipping, industry, recreation and wildlife habitat. Any area this culturally, economically and ecologically important to the region needs to be cherished and protected.
Whether you use the river for business or for recreation, if you have never thought about how your choices impact our local waterways or if you have been an environmental advocate for years, this page will help to provide easy to follow information on how you can help protect our greatest local resource – the Cuyahoga River. |
The Water TrailThis unique, U-shaped river has recently been deemed a water trail with five distinctive areas providing different recreational experiences within each segment. A water trail is a navigable route on a river, lake, stream or canal, marked specifically for recreation. This project focuses on the Heritage and Gorge sections of the river, between River Bend Park in Kent, OH and the Oxbow Area in Akron, OH.
